This Aethe Torc will fit a neck with a maximum circumference of 15 inches. It is a tighter fit on a 15″ neck and will give a choker type feeling, while on smaller 14″ and 13″ necks it will be less of a snug fit allowing more room to move. The rivet allows tension when closed so it will not open up by itself.
What is a Torc?
Dating back to the 8th century, the Torc was worn by the Celts and it is somewhat of a mystery as to what their intended meaning truly was. I have extrapolated that the Torc was worn as a constant reminder of something, as most of the traditional pieces were meant never to be removed. This constant is familiar to that of a yoke, used to bind the necks of ox or slaves together in order to assert power and control over them. However, when we place the Torc upon our own necks, in turn we become the master and the slave of our own will. This tension which applies pressure around one of our most vulnerable physical areas is both comforting and restrictive, allowing one to be both abstracted and present to the immediate moment.
